This course is designed for civilians without medical backgrounds who anticipate being in austere or tactical environments where they or others might sustain injuries. It spans two and a half days, with a heavy emphasis on hands-on training. Theoretical components cover fundamental concepts like the Principals of Shock and bleeding control, while practical sessions dominate the curriculum, providing participants with the skills needed to effectively respond to emergencies in hostile settings.
This course has been created specifically for the civilian person or with no medical background that fears he/she might be involved in a tactical or austere environment where him/herself or somebody else might be injured in the situation.How to handle and how to deal with the situation? This is a one day course that focuses on basic treatment of a casualty, in both the austere and tactical environment.
A total of 8 hours is spent with theoretical work, which focuses on the basic Principals of Shock and bleeding control as this is one of the most common emergencies. More than 60% of this course is practical. The course focuses on practical sessions which integrate the theory components of the course work to understand how to response to situations in hostile environments. TacMed has introduced an innovative approach to enhance the flexibility and accessibility of the TEMS course by restructuring it into a modular format spanning four months, with sessions conducted over one weekend each month.
Participants have the option to attend missed modules from the initial four-month period by joining the subsequent course, contingent upon availability. However, if space is unavailable, they must wait for the next annual offering. Full qualification as a TEMS Doctor, Paramedic, Medic, or Nurse is contingent upon completion of all four modules and passing the exam.
This revamped format aims to streamline scheduling for participants, allowing them to accommodate their professional commitments over the four-month period. Additionally, TacMed has endeavored to make this option more cost-effective compared to traditional medical courses in the country.
For perspective, while the average ACLS course typically costs a minimum of R3500 for a two-day session, TacMed’s modular weekend sessions are priced at R2500 per weekend, totaling R10,000 for the entire eight-day, 92-hour course. It’s important to note that this opportunity is exclusively available to registered Professional Medical Staff affiliated with the HPCSA.
The Medical modules are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, running from 0800 to 1800 for each day. The Tactical Modules span from Saturday to Sunday, totaling 36 hours.
Total completion time of the TEMS course requires a total of 92 hours.
